Parents & Toddlers’ Cooking Classes

Some parents and children from the cooking classes

Since May 2011 our community development work has been carried out through two main activities – Parents & Toddlers’ Cooking Classes (still ongoing) and Eastern European Playgroup – aiming to engage with new arrivals in the E5 area.

The sessions have been provided on a quarterly basis and brought together new arrivals from Poland with Turkish/Kurdish, African/Caribbean, Pakistani, Somali and North African communities. In each quarter, a new group of parents with young children have been meeting regularly to cook together, share their stories, experiences and knowledge, and gradually create their own social network. Some of the parents have volunteered on the projects (providing crèche cover, taking photographs and helping in the kitchen), some other engaged with us several times and then went off to employment. The group of the most active parents was helping this summer in baking gingerbread men and organising a cake stall for community fete at Clapton Park Games in E5.

More cooking classes will be coming up this autumn. Please visit our website for more information.
