Genes & Health Intern Reflects on their 3-month Placement
Samiha Tahsin, a student from Queen Mary University of London, reflects on her 3-month internship with us working as a lead researcher for Genes & Health outreach.
“For my internship at Social Action for Health I had the pleasure of working with lead researchers and a project manager for the execution of a healthcare project, ‘East London Genes & Health’.
I have benefited from this experience because it allowed me to interact closely with Bengali and Pakistani communities by directly communicating about this research to them, sometimes in their native languages. This helped strengthen my self-confidence and polish my public speaking skills which is helping me quite a lot now that I have started working full time as a Clinical Trial Co-Ordinator.
The internship was a step in the right direction as this made me realize I am passionate about healthcare and research. I do wish there was more opportunity to participate in stalls, but this had been an enriching experience nonetheless, thanks to the great team working towards such a great cause.
I do hope and pray this internship scheme carries on recruiting more university students as this acts as a very solid stepping stone for anyone interested in a career in this field. I wish Social Action for Health all the very best for all their future endeavours. Lastly, I thank them for giving me this wonderful opportunity to discover where my passion lies.”
