A night of achievements, joy, and celebrations!
We may not have come away with an award, but we still feel like champions.
On the 6th of December, we put on our gold-laced trainers and headed to Guildhall for the London Sport Awards 2021.
Out of nearly 300 nominations, we made it into the top 28 with our Good Moves project being shortlisted for the Health and Wellbeing Award.
This year’s London Sport Awards celebrated grassroots teams, community volunteers, health and fitness clubs, elite sports organisations, and businesses that have supported Londoners to be physically active during the pandemic. We were immensely proud to be in the company of such fantastic organisations and inspiring individuals.
Good Moves was shortlisted for the Health and Wellbeing Award, which highlighted “significant achievements in using physical activity to promote physical and mental health and wellbeing” and emphasised the role physical activity plays in supporting positive health outcomes.
For 21 years, our Good Moves project has brought accessible and culturally appropriate courses to help support people in Tower Hamlets manage their long-term conditions by looking after their health and wellbeing.
The past two years have been a particularly challenging time for Good Moves as we adjusted to delivering the project online throughout the pandemic. A number of our participants were digitally excluded, and many were particularly vulnerable and shielded because of their long-term health conditions.
Nimo Mohamed, Project Manager of Good Moves:
“The whole team worked tirelessly to make sure Good Moves still supported the community when face-to-face engagement was put on hold. Their efforts made it possible to deliver sessions that meant a lot to people during a difficult time. Thank you so much to London Sport for this recognition – our team are overjoyed!”
